Keep Movin'
PE Events We are now only 16 weeks away from our 7th Annual Panther Run/Walk, & Kid's 1K Fun Run. Check on line at active.com to register. Registration should open the weekend of January 8th.> Organization is in full swing for Panther Run. If you were a past sponsor, please consider being a partner/sponsor again. Sponsorship is what really makes our Panther Run a financial success and it is a great way to show your business logo or family name. Last year we had 571 registered participants. Call or email me for sponsorship info. 670-1124...tedlori@comcast.net> et> News... Here we go! I am looking forward to another great year full of hope, growth and learning. I would like to welcome all our WG families back to school and a warm welcome to all our new WG families. This is my 15th year as the PE Teacher at Wood Gormley. My PE program is focused on developing movement skills, and focusing on the concept of Wellness. I break Wellness down into 3 categories; health, nutrition and fitness. We will discuss these concepts throughout the school year and upper grade students will write some personal goals relating to wellness. I help my students refine many movement skills and learn new movement skills. I do this through fun activities and games, using lots of different equipment that we are fortunate to have in my PE closet at Wood Gormley. I also do a lot of running/jogging with the kids. I schedule 4 age appropriate long runs 4 times during the school year every 9 weeks. I slowly build up to these 4 jogs/runs through progressively longer runs at PE. It is important that students wear sneakers to PE. This is for their safety and success. Girls should wear shorts, pants or skorts. Skirts and dresses at PE hinder the kid’s movements, so please help me by knowing when your child has PE and dressing accordingly. Please practice tying laces, as this helps as well. Some dates to put on your calendar: 7th Annual Wood Gormely Panther Run….Saturday, April 30th. This is one of our biggest fund raisers and most exciting weekends of the school year, with Art Night on Friday, April 29th. The Panther Run consists of a 5K Run, a 2 Mile Walk, and the Kid’s 1K Fun Run. The Panther Run has something for everyone. We always need volunteers leading up to this event, on Race Day, and we always appreciate sponsors. If you would like to be a sponsor or volunteer, please see me at school or call/email me. (670-1124/tedlori@comcast.net) Wood Gormley swim team happens in March, with the city swim meet usually the last weekend in April. The city sets this date, and when they inform us, I will let everyone know. In mid May, I will be taking the 6th graders on my annual and traditional Rock Climb Field trip to the Santa Fe Community College. Again, I look forward to helping your children build their repertoire of movement skills, strength, endurance, self esteem, self confidence and a deeper understanding of how wellness can be part of their live. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to see me at school or call or email me. Thank you for your support and help. Great time to hike in our mountains to see the Aspen’s turning. Family hikes and walks are great for everyone. And don’t forget the dog. It is still great weather for riding bikes (always wear helmets), and jogging/walking, as these are great family activities.
